An Ejigbo chief magistrate court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a 27- year-old lady, Damilola Kasure, to one year imprisonment for allegedly bolting away with her lover’s N1.3 million.
The police alleged that Kasure made away with the money, property of Moses Peter, who resides at Bucknor Estate, Ejigbo, a Lagos suburb.
The prosecutor, Superintendent Kenneth Asibor, told the court that the incident occurred about three months after Kasure had entered into a relationship with Peter.
Asibor said the complainant was hoping to marry the accused in the course of their relationship and, therefore, felt comfortable to lend her the money. Kasure, however, was said to have bolted after collecting the sum.
The prosecutor said that all efforts by the complainant to retrieve his money from her lover were rebuffed as she bluntly refused to pay, saying that she collected the money as compensation for the months she dated him.
Peter then reported the matter to the police at the Ejigbo Division and Kasure was arrested. She was later charged before the Ejigbo magistrate court with fraud.
She pleaded guilty and Asibor asked the court to sentence her accordingly to serve as a deterrent to others.
Thus, magistrate, Mr T.O. Shomade, sentenced her to a year jail term. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
