The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed, has said that the victory of his party, the APC in Saturday’s
election was for the ordinary Nigerians.
The Ministry held a victory celebration event in honour of
the Minister on Thursday, to congratulate him and his party, the All
Progressives Congress, APC, for winning Saturday’s polls in Kwara State.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Mohammed said the credit “for
the liberation of Kwara goes to the good people of state.
“A simple slogan, ‘O To Ge’ (enough is enough), captured the
determination of the people to vote out those who have held them down for
decades. And that is precisely what they did,” Mohammed said.
“Permit me to also thank all Nigerians, most sincerely, for
re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I must say that I have no doubt at all that Nigerians will
re-elect the President. I said that over and over again before the election.
“Overall, this government is doing more with less and is
restoring decency and integrity to governance. Like the New York Times said,
the re-election of President Buhari is a referendum on honesty. There is no
better way to put it.
“Last weekend’s election is a direct contest between
ordinary Nigerians and the elites, most of whom are rent seekers. Of course,
the ordinary Nigerians have won.”
Speaking earlier at the event, the Permanent Secretary of
the ministry, Grace Gekpe, said, “Today we are here this morning on behalf of
the entire staff of the Ministry of Information and culture to congratulate you
and celebrate with you on the victory you obtained in Kwara State.”
