The Nigerian Army says one Shedrack Christopher, who recently paraded himself as a Lance Corporal in the 81 Division in Lagos, is a fake soldier and should be regarded as an “imposter.’’
Lt.-Col. O.M. Daudu, the spokesman of the Division, who stated this in a statement made to Defence corresponding in Abuja on Thursday, said Christopher had claimed he was attached to the “55 Army Signal Unit, Arakan Barracks.’’
According to Daudu, the fake soldier was arrested for allegedly stealing cell phones at a hotel in Ijanikin in Lagos.
He said during the initial investigation, Christopher made “spurious claims of being an aid to Maj.-Gen. Mohammed at Army Headquarters in Abuja.’’
Daudu said the fake also claimed to have served in the North East for five years without being granted pass/leave, adding that the claims were totally false.
“The Division wishes to state categorically that there is no serving soldier by name Lance Corporal Shedrack Christopher in 55 Signal Communication Command as falsely claimed by the `soldier’.
“The Headquarters, 81 Division Nigerian Army wishes to call on the good people of Lagos State to regard Shedrack Christopher as an impostor that has nothing to do with the Nigerian army,’’ the spokesman said.
He appealed to the people of the state and environs to continue to provide credible information to security agencies to effectively checkmate criminal activities especially in the 81 Division Areas of Responsibility.
