The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has said that if elected, he will vote 50 per cent of the budget to the education sector.
Agbaje stated this on Tuesday while delivering a paper titled, ‘The transformation of Lagos: Education as anchor, the big idea,’ at the Lagos Business School, Lekki.
He said, “I will, as governor of Lagos State, if necessary, be prepared to spend as much as 50 per cent of our annual budget on education, the education ecosystem and the education value chain.
“I will bet the future of Lagos State on an elaborate education and skills development value proposition; I will create an education-driven economy.”
The PDP presidential candidate said he planned to get all the state’s MDAs to allocate substantial portions of their budgets to “the education ecosystem and value chain.”
He added, “We do not have a choice. Lagos State’s education focus will be significantly about technology. We will partner the best providers globally. The big idea is about the rejuvenation of the inner city, urban redevelopment and securing the long-term future of Lagos State.”
