I will not compromise in safeguarding people’s trust, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged not to compromise in providing good leadership that would guarantee a better life for all Nigerians.

Buhari made the pledge when he led All Progressives Congress presidential campaign team on a courtesy visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, at his palace on Wednesday in Sokoto.

Buhari also pledged not to compromise the trust of the people, stressing that his administration has fulfilled the campaign promises it made in 2015 on tackling insecurity, fighting corruption and generating employment.

He said his administration achievements were glaring as previously no fewer than 17 local government areas were being controlled by Boko Haram group but at present none was being occupied by the group.

He added that the armed groups deployed other tactics of using girls as bomb carriers and other pockets of crimes which had been reduced drastically and contained.

The President explained that between 1999 to 2014, Nigeria produced about 2.4 million barrels of crude oil daily, sold at more than 100 US Dollars per barrel, yet nothing was done to improve national infrastructure including roads, rail and electricity.

He challenged those in doubt to verify from financial institutions and countries buying the nation’s oil, adding that maladministration had been tackled by his administration.

“Leadership is a trust, with our knowledge we will not allow anybody to cheat people or collaborate on any dishonest dealings.

“We made fertiliser abundant and affordable which facilitated bumper harvest and people’s attention now shifted to agriculture. Many people at present practice farming because of the gains’’, Buhari added.

He assured the Sultan that such good development would be sustained if elected, noting that they were in his palace to seek for blessings.

Responding, the Sultan, welcomed the president and his team and urged them to consider their visit as a homecoming.

He explained that traditional rulers were fathers of all and would continue to render fatherly advice to those in authority for the good of the people.

The Sultan called on Buhari to sustain the war against corruption and pledge that the Sultanate Council would partner with all organs of government in promoting transparency and accountability.

According to him, Islam discourages evil and called on people to cooperate with various organisations on promoting good governance.

He commended Buhari for tackling security challenges across the country but urged the federal government to re-equip security agencies and provide them with incentives to enhance their work.

It was reported that among the delegation were APC National Chairman Adams Oshoimole and Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State.

Others are Senator Sani Yarima, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, Minister of Defence Mansur DanAli and Minister of Commerce and Industry Hajia Ai’sha Abubakar among others.
