The pan Yoruba socio-political
organisation, Afenifere has reacted to remark by former President Olusegun
Obasanjo that Nigeria was back to the late General Sani Abacha’s era under
President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Speaking on Sunday in his state
of the nation address which he tagged “Points for Concern and Action” Obasanjo
said just like Abacha era, state institutions are used to fight perceived
enemies of the head of state.
Reacting to Obasanjo’s statement,
spokesperson of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin said Nigeria was experiencing a
civilian dictatorship.
Giving reasons for his claim,
Odumakin said there has been a rise in disobedience to court orders and absence
of freedom speech.
Addressing newsmen, he said: “We
are already in another Abacha regime. We have seen disobedience of court
orders, the decimation of every perceived opponent, and absence of freedom of
speech.
“We have seen the hounding of
people. What we are in today is worse than Abacha, we knew what we had under
Abacha. So, we have a civilian dictatorship in Nigeria.”
