The acting Chairman of the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has declared that
the fight against corruption was not based on religion.
Magu, however, stressed that the
current anti-graft war was between good and evil forces.
He spoke yesterday in Abuja at a
parley organized by the Centre For Democracy and Development, CDD, tagged:
“Roles of Media in Anti-Corruption Campaign: Journey so far.”
According to Magu, “I cannot
agree less with Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who said, “the people
that steal Nigeria’s resources are both Christians and Muslims. What we are
fighting in this country is a battle between good and evil; it is not a battle
between religions.
“I dare add that the corruption
fight is also not between tribes, it is a collective battle for the soul of
Nigeria; a battle for the future generation of yet unborn Nigerians; it is
indeed the battle for the future of Africa.
“The quest to ensure that we do
not create an environment for the corrupt to take over our society is one that
belongs to every one of us including the media. It should not be left only to
the EFCC and sister anti-graft agencies.
“What we as an anti-graft agency
have observed in recent times is that when you fight corruption, corruption
fights back, and often it does so through the media. In spite of the cordial
relationship which we have over the years strived to cultivate with the media,
we have seen unfortunate instances, where a section of the media have decidedly
chosen to, instead, be ready tools in the hands of the corrupt, manifested in
malicious, opinion articles and paid advertorials designed to malign the good
intentions of the EFCC.
“I am, therefore, using this
opportunity to implore you as media professionals to support the
anti-corruption drive of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.”

Mr. Magu, what you mean to say is you cannot agree more. If you say you can't agree less it means you are not in agreement with the VP. Na wa for these kind of public officials sha.
