The Governor of Benue State,
Samuel Ortom, has reacted to the report of alleged impeachment plans by the
State House of Assembly.
The Governor also reacted to the
report that he was considering dumping the All Progressives Congress, APC, due
to some issues with the leadership of the party.
Speaking on
Wednesday, his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, said the Governor said
there was no such plan by any member of the State’s legislature to impeach him.
He said that such rumours were being distributed by some people who do not like
the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
He said that there was a cordial
relationship between the state’s lawmakers and the executive, adding that the
governor had carried the legislature along all through his three years in
office.
According to him, “There is no
such move to impeach the governor. Those are false rumours. There is a cordial
relationship between the executive and the legislature and the state has not
complained about anything.
“The Governor has not done
anything that could warrant his impeachment. So, anybody that is peddling the
rumour of impeachment, that person does not know Benue state. There’s no such
thing in Benue.
Also speaking on the rumoured
plan by the Governor to defect to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, he
added, “The Governor is not defecting to any other party. He is a member of the
APC. He is a governor that likes his people and fights for their interests.
“I won’t deny that there are
issues. The governor had issues with the leadership of the party but these
issues have been resolved. Sometimes people disagree to make things work
accordingly. These disagreements happen everywhere and leaders sit down to
resolve issues.
“So the governor is a member of
the APC. “
