What Nigerians are saying about IGP Idris’ alleged refusal to appear before senate

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, has come under attack by Nigerians over his refusal to honour the Upper Chambers’ invitation for the second time over the killings in the country.

Recall that for the second time on Wednesday, Mr Idris failed to honour the invitation to appear before the Senate.

Idris was, however, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Joshak Habila while he was said to be in Kaduna on an official assignment.

Saraki had said the senate would not condole Idris’ absence as no IGP has ever snubbed the Senate’s summon since Nigeria returned to democracy.

However, Some Nigerians found IGP’s alleged refusal to appear before the senate as appalling, owing to the incessant killings being experienced in the country.

They described the situation as an insult on the legislative arm of government.

Here are some comments gathered from Twitter:

@joshuathegrea, “Hmmmmm. As a good citizen of Nigeria, if I were you, l will tell the IG to first honour the invitation of the Nigeria Senate before mine. This is best described as insult to the Legislative arm of Govt. Let’s move Nigeria forward. Security matter should be prioritized .”

@strong_truth “Their time is limited & their judgement is so close & day of reckoning is just around the corner.”

@DrRitzy “And he didn’t honour @NGRSenate invitation for the second time. obviously a slap on our democracy.”

@ApostleDavidOdi “The IG @PoliceNG preferred a useless private visit to a second invitation by the Senate.”

@simmyu “I’m sure you know, your IG is just playing hide and seek with your NASS, he doesn’t want to honour their invitation therefore he looks for all the flimsy excuses in the world to hold onto. Street smartness, can only work in a country like Nigeria.”

@anche_76803 “He is in Kaduna to intimidate your perceived enemies. To intimidate your critics, to get the service address of your critics for easy arrest.”
