Maikanti Baru, the Group Managing
Director, GMD, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has cautioned
Nigerians against buying petrol above government approved price of N145 from
filling stations.
Speaking on the sidelines of a
function in Lagos on Thursday, Maikanti said there was no shortage of petroleum
products, as such, people should buy at the right price.
The NNPC boss said the
Corporation has sanitised the supply and distribution of petroleum products
across the country.
“We have brought back sanity in
the fuel supply system. We have over 2.1 billion litres of petrol in-tank at
the moment and people should be calm and be sure that the right quantity is
given to them at the filling station at N145 per litre that the government has
approved to be the sale price of PMS,” he said.
Maikanti’s call was coming at a
time when the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), had sealed a petrol
station affiliated to the downstream petroleum sector retail arm of the
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for selling fuel at N181 per
litre.
The affected fuel station, which
is located along the Kashim Ibrahim Way in Wuse 2 District of Abuja, had
reportedly been under dispensing petrol to its customers.
