The Center for Anti-Corruption
and Open Leadership (CACOL), has reacted to the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye
on Monday.
Melaye, on Monday had announced
that he was arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport on his way to Morocco.
Reacting to Dino’s arrest, the
group in a statement issued by its director, Debo Adeniran said questions
should be raised by Nigerians whether due process was followed before a serving
senator was arrested.
Adeniran called on the Nigeria
Police to publicise the crime committed by Sen. Melaye.
The statement reads, “If they
invited him and he didn’t show up, they should have waited for him at the gate
of the National Assembly. If anybody commits a crime, he is supposed to be
arrested and prosecuted immediately.
” If Dino has committed any
crime, it should be made public and the police should be sure they have
concluded their investigations so that they can immediately prosecute him. We
should be told the offence he was arrested for.”
Meanwhile, the police on Monday
night, explained that the siege on Senator Melaye’s residence in Abuja, was
necessitated by his involvement in a case of unlawful possession of prohibited
firearms.
