Former President Olusegun
Obasanjo has blamed Nigeria’s political and economic challenges on leadership
deficit.
According to him, God did not
create bad situations in Nigeria but the deficit in leadership was largely
responsible for the underdevelopment of the country.
The former President said this
during the ceremony marking his 81st birthday celebration, which held at the
Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
yesterday.
Obasanjo further said that the
issue of leadership, development, and values should be upheld to change the
paradigm shift in the areas of development in the country
“I do not believe that God has
created a bad situation for Nigeria or for any particular section of the
country or for any particular country in Africa. So why things are not going
right? We must blame ourselves. It’s an issue of leadership, governance,
development, and values.
“These are things that we must
take seriously and make sure we get them right,” he said.
The former president, however,
reiterated his resolve not to participate in active politics but to spend the
rest of his life to serve God and humanity.
