Nigeria needs visionary leaders – Ekweremadu

The Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu on Sunday declared that Nigeria needs visionary leaders in order to attain the desired height.



According to him, the extent of development of any people was dependent on the vision of their leaders.

He said when leaders have big dreams for their people, what followed was rapid development.

Ekweremadu spoke during a two-day inspection tour of projects he attracted to Enugu West Senatorial District.

The Deputy President of the Senate who was visibly happy with the pace of work at different project sites said that he was fulfilled because developing his environment was the main reason he ventured into politics.

He pointed out that with the Nnewe/ Oduma/ Uburu road with a spur at Ishiagu which is at 80 percent completion, economic activities will be accelerated within the area.


Ekweremadu recalled that until he was elected in to the Senate, no part of Aninri Local Government Area had electricity nor asphalt road.

He said, “The extent of development of any society depends on the size of the vision of their leaders, so if you have leaders who have big vision,the society will achieve a lot, but when leaders have limited vision, then that will be the extent of development of that society.

“Growing up as a young child, I saw this road as a very big challenge to our people, but today we are achieving our vision for our people. What we are doing here, we are also doing in all other parts of our constituency”.

Ekweremadu assured the people that all projects attracted by him must be completed in record time and according to specifications. He used the opportunity to inform his constituents that each time he visits any part of his constituency, he always insist on inspecting on going projects in the area, so as to ascertain the pace of work and the nature of funding required to get the project completed.


The Deputy President of the Senate commended his Special Adviser on Projects Engr Jonathan Ivoke and most of the construction firms working at different project sites for their commitment and dedication to work. He was equally quick to laud the state government for their intervention on roads and bridges in the state especially their awarding of the contract on the Ivo Bailey Bridge.

Some of the projects also inspected include the Ukpa/ Ujiri/ Ndibeoh/Lekwa erosion control project at Oji – River, Onuakanu/ Utin road, Amagu/ Amaeze road, Amaeze/Ihueze link road and Ivo Bailey Bridge, Ihuibe/Ihiozike road, Okpara road, all in Okpanku.

Others are Aninri East Development Center Secretariat under construction, E library; which JAMB has graciously approved through the intervention of Chief Ekweremadu to be used by students in the area during UME examinations, Empowerment and Training Center, designed to include a conference center, lock up stores and hotel rooms, all in Mpu, plus the brand new Mpu/ Oduma road under construction.

In his speech, the National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Hon. SKE Udokoye who was part of the entourage extolled the Deputy President of the Senate Chief IKE Ekweremadu on the quantum of infrastructural development that he has attracted to Enugu West, adding that he has really shown exemplary leadership.

Hon. Udeokoye said “It is an act of providence that you became our Leader and PDP is proud of you.

“It is not surprising that we are here today to see these laudable projects that you have attracted at a time the ruling Party APC has failed the nation and you have decided to labor yourself the more to give dividends of democracy to your people”.

All the site engineers handling the various projects inspected assured Chief Ekweremadu of strict adherence to projects specifications and timely completion.


The facilitator of one the inspected agro training Empowerment programme personally sponsored by Senator Ekweremadu at Okpanku, Prof. Henry Adagba commended the Deputy President of the Senate for the decision to empower people through the programme which has so far trained over two hundred farmers in fish farming and crop science.
