Herdsmen attacks: Benue youths reveal those allegedly sponsoring killings

The Benue Youth Forum, has said that those calling for declaration of state of emergency in Benue are the sponsors of killer herdsmen in the state.

Speaking through its president, Terrence Kuanum, in Makurdi, the state capital, yesterday, the youths insisted that the plot to have emergency rule in the state was being orchestrated by those who were opposed to the state’s grazing law.

They said some set of persons are bent on forcefully taking over the Benue valley from the indigenous people of the state.

The Youth Forum President said, “We have observed the desperate attempts by some mischief makers to cause chaos in Benue state with a view to worsening the security situation and creating an environment that could lead to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

“The people of Benue State have had enough of the violent invasion of their land and massacre of inhabitants, especially women and children.

“The gruesome killing of innocent people in some Benue communities by armed herdsmen since the beginning of 2018 is one dark development that has thrown people in the state and beyond in an unprecedented shock.

“Following that up with inordinate ambition to destabilize Benue in the name of state of emergency will no doubt, give credence to the belief that the state is under siege by enemies of democracy and peoples liberty.

“Those drumming for emergency rule in Benue state must be told that they are the same ones sponsoring insecurity in the state and their evil plot has failed on arrival.

“If enemies of the people push for declaration of a state of emergency in Benue, then one would be tempted to ask what would be the situation in Kaduna and Taraba states where the mayhem caused by the marauding blood suckers were, and are still scary beyond imagination?”
