EFCC quizzes Niger’s Chief of Staff, health agency ED

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has invited Chief of Staff to Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State, Mikail Alamin Shekwoaga, for questioning over some alleged financial malpractices.

Specifically, he was said to have been quizzed over a case of obtaining money under false pretense and abuse of office, the first public officer to be so quizzed in the present administration.

Vanguard reliably gathered that the invitation of the Chief of Staff by the anti-graft agency was contained in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, with reference number CR:0000/EFCC/ABJ/AFF 2/VOL 7/804, entitled Investigative Activities, Letter of Invitation.

Besides the invitation of the Chief of Staff, the Executive Director of Niger State Primary Health Development Agency, NSPHDA, Dr. Yahaya Nau’zo, was also quizzed for alleged financial irregularities in his agency.

The letter read: “This office is investigating a case of obtaining money under false pretense and abuse of office in which the need to obtain clarification from your staff has become imperative.

“In view of the above, you are requested to release the Executive Director, NSPHDA, Dr. Yahaya Nauzo, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Mukail Alamin Shekwoaga Bmitosahi, to interview by the undersigned through the team leader AFF 2 at No. 5 Ademola Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10a.m.”

Efforts to know if the two principal officers have been released proved abortive, just as spokesmen of the governor could not also be reached for comments over the development.
