Oni campaign train visits Elders
forum, says he owes PDP nothing to pay back
The Deputy National Chairman
(South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ekiti State governorship
aspirant, Chief Segun Oni, has said that he was not owning the Peoples Democratic
Party, (PDP) anything to pay back, to warrant some people insinuating that as
Governor, he would be favouring the party to the marginalization of APC.
Oni, in a statement signed by his
Media Aide, Mr Steve Alabi, in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday was quoted to have spoken
when he visited the APC Elders Forum at Igbara-Odo-Ekiti in Ekiti South west
local government area of Ekiti.
The governorship aspirant visited
to elders to inform them on why he wanted to be governor again and also doused
the opponents’ instilled fears of what he would and would not do as Governor.
Oni, amidst loud ovations stated
among other things that he will never harbour any vengeance in respect of any
past political issues as vengeance is of God.
Citing Nelson Mandela as example,
Oni said that Mandela after 27 years behind bar, did not retaliate against
anybody when he became President, but rather promised to correct every wrong
confronting South Africa.
“That in the same spirit, i was
ready to set Ekiti on the right path of progress and posterity, as a former
National Vice Chairman (under PDP) and now Deputy National Chairman (South)
under APC, i am well knowledgeable and well positioned on how party should be
run.
“If elected Governor, i will
separate party from government and also give the Elders their rightful place in
the polity.”
On the agitation by the South
agenda, Oni said, “I have always been a lover of the South and also a believer
in their aspiration to produce Governor; that to demonstrate my love for the
South, i remain the only Governor that conceded three major posts (Minister,
SSG and Speaker) to the South at a goal.
“At another time when i was urged
to re-contest for Governor sometime in the run-up to the 2014 election, i
suggested names of four persons from the South from where leaders could pick
and was ready to support their choice.
“The decision to declare interest
now is to attract more supporters from other parties to assist APC win much
more easily in the general election and then use my only four years to lay the
foundation for Social and Economic Revolution as well as to create a dignified
political culture for the benefit of all.
“The most important strength i
enjoy now is the fact that Ekiti people themselves are earnestly asking me to
come back as Governor, haven experienced my style of administration in
comparison with the serious mis-governance going on now under the present PDP
government.
“If given the opportunity, i will
perform better than i did in my first term in office and will be fair to all
persons in my dealings as governor
“The core Ekiti values which have
disappeared because of misrule would be restored and the lost glory of Ekiti
will come back again by introducing policies which can bring about the
aformentioned social and economic emancipation of Ekiti people.
“The policy will specially focus
on youths, who would be re-trained, re-orientated, employed and empowered for
economic self-reliance.
The governorship aspirant was
accompanied on the visit to the elders by Dr Ifeoluwa Arowosoge,
DIrector-General, Segun Oni Campaign Organization, former Senators, former
members, House of Representatives, former Members, Ekiti State House of
Assembly.
Others on the trip are the 2015
House of Assembly candidates of APC and numerous leaders from various Local
governments as well as the APC youths, especially The Young Progressives (TYP).
