The Anglican Bishop of the
Diocese of Egbu, Rt. Rev Geoffrey Okorafor has admonished Igbos to be realistic
about Biafra agitation.
Okorafor said this, yesterday,
during a Eucharistic service of confirmation, admission and induction for
Emeabiam Parish, at Christ Anglican Church Emeabiam in Owerri West Local
Government Area of Imo State.
The Bishop said Igbos must come
to terms with present realities confronting the zone in the Nigeria context.
The cleric implored Igbos to
squarely address their problems or else, they will not succeed.
He stressed that not even the
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’s agitation and its leadership can solve
problems of Ndigbo.
The prelate lamented lack of
unity among Ndigbo and berated some groups championing the secession struggle
for being at each other’s throats.
He, however, advised that they
should not dissipate energy fighting each other, but appreciate the fact that
“they are pursuing common goals, which are to confront their oppressors,
marginalisation and subjugation, as a race, in the national polity.”
Okorafor maintained that until
Ndigbo become united, they would continue to be denied their position as a
vital component in the Nigerian polity.
“Besides craving for unity, Igbo
should embrace economic ventures in which they have comparative advantage in
their zone.
“Igbo should return to
agriculture because we have good and arable land in the South East, rather than
looking up to the North,” he said.
