The Nigerian Senate has invited
the minister of budget and national planning, Udoma Udo Udoma and his finance
counterpart, Kemi Adeosun, over the lack of funding of the 2017 budget.
The duo were summoned following a
motion on the stabilizing and sustaining post-recession growth of the economy
which was raised during plenary on Tuesday, September 26.
Senator Barau Jubrin, during
deliberation on the floor of the House, stated that it was necessary for the
executive to be focused so that the country does not slide back into recession.
On his part, Senator Na’Allah
called on the executive to immediately implement the budget.
Similarly, Senator Dino Melaye
queried why the government was not funding the budget now that the country was
out of recession.
Senate president Bukola Saraki in
his submission said the government was on the right track but needed to do more
on infrastructure.
The Senate president then
requested that Senate majority leader, Ahmed Lawan, follow up on the invitation
of of the ministers of finance and budget and national planning over the issue.
