An expensive designer dress worn by the First Lady Aisha Buhari during a reception she held for her visiting Ugandan counterpart, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has become a big topic on social media.
The magnificent dress, found on websites linking it to affluent Dominican fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, appears to cost a fortune, even in dollar terms.
Described on the designer’s website as “New Oscar de la Renta embellished white lace guipure maxi dress gown,” the impressive dress was first seen in March 2016, and it comes under the broad tag of “Destination wedding dress.”
Describing its uniqueness, the designer’s website says the embellished caftan “brings an indulgent dose of classic glamour to your wardrobe.”
It is 100% silk, with the instruction: “Dry Clean Only.”
It is a delight to behold. But while the Oscar de la Renta website no longer hosts the dress among its expensive stock, it could be found on high-end online shopping stores.
And though it appears to have been officially pulled from circulation, it was however traced it to the e-Bay, where it has been put up for $1,099.99, which is a staggering N390,496.45 at official exchange rate.
On the e-Bay, buyers appear to have the opportunity to pay monthly installment of $52 for 24 months.
This is not the first time Her Excellency would be receiving a backlash on her accessories, as she was once accused of carrying a black 35cm Porosus crocodile skin Hermes Birkin handbag that reportedly cost $300,000 during a visit to Washington DC on August 4, 2016. DeleteWhat's the big deal
Maybe she should start wearing rags
Leave the woman alone abeg
why do Nigerians hate any thing good ,must we be wearing rags, or do we expect her to be wearing a black hijab that we can not see her face
DeleteShe wasn't poor before becoming the First Lady so why the silly noise. She should wear whatever she likes jare!
ReplyDeleteWhoever make noise on what the First Lady wares should buy rag to his mother, daughter, wife etc. But our First Lady must dress gorgoursly!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy are we so visionless in this country? Some women struggled to get just N500 to take to market on market day. Many youths are dying with their useful innovations/contribitions that could lift this country, no sponsors (do they even believe in their dreams?) Some need just N100,000, some less to startup a meaningful business. We're here celebrating over N390,000 single cloth. Tribalism, sentiment, religious, ethnicity kept dividing us. When exactly will that better change come? When we've not even creat the avenue to start. God bless Nigeria.
