A report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in conjunction with National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and others had released a report titled “Corruption in Nigeria: Bribery: Public experience and response” Which has described police officers as the most corrupt.
The report which was released Wednesday in Abuja indicated that police officers are the type of public officials to whom bribes are most commonly paid in Nigeria.
The police ranked high with 46.4 percent while prosecutors ranked directly after them with 33.0 percent.
Other public officials put into perspective are Judges and magistrates, tax and revenue officers, customs officers and public utilities officers.
Reacting to the report, the Force Spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood described the report as false.
He also urged Nigerians to disregard the report noting that there is no way the Nigeria Police Force officials could be corrupt.
He said: “I don’t think the UNODC are for such purpose. We have not seen such report and we cannot react to what we have not seen but what I know is that Nigeria Police Force is not corrupt.
“Corruption is a personal thing and Nigeria Police Force is not a corrupt institution and it is not for anybody to have made such allegation.
“The allegations are mischievous because it is not empirical and we distant ourselves from such and we want all Nigerians to condemn such.
“In fact a lot of changes have been introduced into the Force to ensure that we are accountable to the people.
“Such a report is unacceptable by the Force and we want everybody to disregard such because the Nigeria Police is not corrupt. The allegation is not empirical and it cannot stand any test or proof. It is misleading.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

If you say you people(police) are not corrupt, then why did you introduce the changes? Your sins has cut up with you. Everybody knows you're all corrupt. If I were you, I will stop making fool of yourself and shut the hell up.

ReplyDeleteThe idiot denying this should go to Calabar and see how police officers still proudly and boldly collect N50 from commuters in broad day light. Is that not corruption? Can we say that Nigerian police is nonpartisan in this country? I always say that where to start the anti corruption war is from the courts...the jundges, magistrates and prosecutors, then police, and every other thing will arrange itself. But when u know that u can bribe the police and the magistrate, why do u bother abt anything?
ReplyDeleteWhat did he say? He said what please? The statement of CSP Jimoh Moshood made me to faint and that's why I'm asking what he said. This man should be arrested for defaming the character of Nigeria police. He's destroying their character, their legacy, he's pulling them down from their highest form of achievement and if he's successful in destroying the Nigeria police like that, then they have no more achievement. That's their only area of strength and it's not good for them to be treated like that. I went to Ikeja Lagos police station one time to report a case of assault on my wife by some anti-riot policemen at an illegal checking point and while waiting for my turn to Lodge my complaint, I heard a family making a report of an arm robbery against them. The policeman asked the family plainly, "Did u arrest them and where are they?" and immediately, I told my friend that accompanied me there to let us go. If the family could deal with the arm robbers, do u think they would have come for help? I have on several occasions seen policemen asking and receiving bribery from people. I have put up an intense argument with policemen for refusal to pay them bribe. But I know that the Nigeria police is good, very good at taking bribe and no one should discredit them like this man does on that issue. The solution is a changed heart. We all need Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord and when our hearts are changed, then our society will be changed. The reason why he is lieing about this issue is a confirmation that Nigeria police is corrupt. It may not be all the nigerian policemen that are corrupt but we can't start distinguishing them now. Anyway as I said, we need a change of heart before a change in the system can be effected and Jesus Christ is the ONLY One that can change hearts and when hearts are changed, bribery will loose its taste, so will corruption, lieing, and all sorts of evil. Tanx a lot and be blessed. As usual, Today Thursday 08172017 @ 12:25pm.
