The Minister of Information and
Culture, Lai Mohammed, has denied operating a Twitter handle.
Mohammed made the denial while
reacting to a message on a certain Twitter handle @MohammedLai where he
allegedly called Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye a ‘clown.”
A message on the alleged parody
account had read, “Just look at this clown; Senator Dino Melaye at the Notting
Hill carnival in London, performing his favourite song, “Ajekun Iya.”
Reacting to the report, Mohammed
maintained that he has no Twitter account.
Speaking, one of the Minister’s
media aides, Joseph Mutah, said, “My principal has no Twitter account and never
described Melaye as a clown. The twitter handle that carried that information
is a parody account.”
He, however, promised that a
verified Twitter account for the Minister would be launched in order to
suppress all the parody accounts being created in his name.
Another check shows that the
account has only 8,000 followers, among whom is the former Governor of Ekiti
State and current Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi.
It’s,however, unclear if the follower is the real Fayemi.
