Omagbemi makes FIFA Best Women’s Coach Award shortlist

Former Super Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi has been nominated for the FIFA Best women’s coach award.


The 42-year-old is in the running for the prestigious award alongside nine others, including  Olivier Echouafni from France, England’s Emma Hayes, and Danish coach Nils Nielsen.

Florence Omagbemi is a female Nigerian former football midfielder. She was part of the Nigeria women’s national football team across four FIFA Women’s World Cups, several Africa Women Cup of Nations and at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

As a player, she won the African Women’s Championship in 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004.

She coached the Super Falcons to a first place finish at the  2016 edition of the tournament.

According to FIFA’s website, the winner will emerge via votes involving the four main stakeholders in football;  national team coaches, captains, selected media and the fans.
