Veteran Nollywood actor, Olu
Jacobs, has revealed that he was once addressed as a dog by a white woman while
London.
The 75-year-old thespian attended
the prestigious Royal Academy of the Arts in London and featured in a lot of
British theatre and film productions till he returned to Nigeria many years
later.
Jacobs told Punch that he was a
victim of racism in many occasions in the UK.
He said, “I was a victim of
racism all the time. You felt it in the way the people looked at you and in
their attitude toward you. But you could not do anything about it. I could not
take somebody to court for that.
“A white woman once called me a
dog. She had a vacant room for rent. But when I approached her, she asked if I
didn’t see the ‘No dogs’ sign on her door.
“Before I could respond, she said
that a dog was better than me and then slammed the door in my face. I felt so
bad that I almost decided to return to Nigeria.”

I thank the Almighty God for your life that you survived it all. It is true and real. But for some who never live in this part of the world, they can never comprehend what you shared here. I am still a living victim in their land but I am consoled all the time by the Almighty God and with His grace, we are thriving. I know some people will say why can't you come back to Nigeria? Me too, will ask a similar question if I have not experienced it before. It's dehumanizing and so sad. What a world?
