This Biafra thing was becoming like child’s play – Arewa Youths

The National Secretary, Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, Ahmed Sule, has noted that the push by Igbo people to get a separate country was becoming like a child’s play hence the need to send them packing from the Northern region.

Recall that a Coalition of Northern Youths had earlier last week, issued a 3 month ultimatum to Igbos in the north to vacate the region or be forced out.
The ultimatum was few days later backed by the Northern elders, who said there was nothing wrong with the call for Igbos to go back to their land.

Sule said on Channel Television SunRise Daily, “The Igbo people and their idea of Biafra in a sovereign state has become like child’s play.
“You don’t start to make jest of situations like that especially in a country like Nigeria. When you are within a state and you are talking about another country in a country.
“You see what I’m trying to tell you is that when things get too much, because we tend to have been allowing them get away with it. Why should they be always talking about Biafra, Biafra, Biafra and the ones that do it, you can see them, are the younger ones.
“We have a sovereign state with sovereign powers whether it is the president or whoever is in charge, they are duty bound to deal with any situation that threatens the unity of the country. That is the meaning of sovereign.
“Nobody should tamper with it. What brought about all this declarations that you heard last Tuesday. You have the Ndigbo.
“Now, the Arewa youths have never talked about breaking away from this country. In fact, all we do in our programme is making sure this country remains united.
“In the North, if not the Arewa youth, what other organization stands out, sticks its neck and say things the way they ought to be said.
“What makes you think the ACF ended up backing what the Arewa youths said? Its because we are not fighting. We only said, ‘if it is Biafra that you want’ because you always say you want to break away. It’s a kind of marriage unit, okay you are not satisfied, you move aside. There’s no fight in it.
“What we are talking about is beyond that sit-at-home thing. You see, the average northerner knows what he feels; the impression of him from the other parts of the country especially the Southern part. The Northerner accommodates a lot of stress and pain from insults.”

  1. Mr. Ahmed Sule why not tell FG to grant Ndigbo referendum and see what will happen.
You talked about sovereign state with sovereign powers. My question is; Is UK not a sovereign state with sovereign powers but Scotland was given a referendum to determine if their people want to leave UK or stay. It's a pity few educated people in the North are so myopic and shallow minded in your debate. Correct me if I am wrong. Sit a home show the mind of Ndigbo. Nobody was forced or cajoled into staying at home. Please advise the NFG to allow Ndigbo to decide if they want to belong to Nigeria or not. You people are only looking to reap where you did not sow. Igbo man will come to your state, work hard buy land and build house/s, hotel etc while your people are on the street begging asking for aims. Now you want to confiscate their properties. What a shame to a people.

    1. The starting point is for Ndigbo to elect into the National Assembly leaders who believe in the secession. They are the ones that would sponsor a bill for a referendum. The FG cannot be running around spending money on referendums for every group that rises to demand its own country. Your elected leaders should be those who share your vision, otherwise. That is how it is done all over the world. There has to be a Bill before a referendum!

  4. Why won't Ibo man come to the north buy land and build?Do you have land ? The little you have you kill each other over it ,no tribe can comfortably go to Ibo land and acquire property because of your self centerednes, greed, and wickedness. You leave you own land run to other lands they welcome you now you become a thorn in their flesh you lie.You want Biafra do dey go it's an issue now.Carry your land and development and go if you can.You dint know you had assets when you were asking for Biafra.

  5. I do not think there is any need for a referendum for the Ibo's to decide whether to remain in Nigeria or not. There request to leave is granted please.
