Former President, Olusegun
Obasanjo, has warned those calling for the disintegration of Nigeria to desist
from such acts.
Speaking in Makurdi, the Benue
state capital over the weekend, the former President noted that those singing
war songs were doing great disservice to the country.
Obasanjo insisted that despite
imperfections in the system, Nigeria remained a great country with lots of
potentials.
Noting that the imperfections
should be corrected, Obasanjo said the unity of the country was the
responsibility of all.
He said, “None of us should be tired of doing our best for this country. I have confidence in Nigeria and we all should.
“Those who keep singing the songs of disunity, whether young or old, are doing this country a great disservice and should desist. And those who have led this country at any level in the past have greater responsibilities to ensure the country works, rather than singing songs of disunity and war.”
This is coming at a time when a
coalition of Northern Youths gave Igbos a three months ultimatum to vacate
their region .
Also several groups like the
Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Movement for the Actualisation of
the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, are calling for the division of the
country.
