As It Happened: Nigeria 0-2 South Africa


Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa from the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, on Saturday 10 June 2017.
The teams are out on the field and national anthems are being sung. We are just five minutes from the start of this AFCON qualifier.

These teams will be playing to bring themselves level at the top of Group E with Libya, who racked up an impressive 5-1 win over Seychelles on Friday night. In addition, the referee for this game is Tunisia's Youssef Essrayri.

Half an hour to kick-off, the line-ups are in. Here are the starting XIs for each team:

Half time - Nigeria 0-0 SA - There's the whistle for half time. Nigeria have been the better team for the most part, but South Africa improved as the game went on and hit the post a few minutes ago. An intriguing second half awaits.

26' Elderson Echiejile escapes a yellow card there. Stuart Baxter was expecting the Nigerian left back to be handed a card apparently judging by his demeanor.

23' Chidozie Awaziem clears a dangerous ball off the Eagoes backline. The ball is played into the South African defence with Kelechi Iheanacho the target but it is cleared

22' Etebo is close to making it 1-0 for Nigeria but his low effort goes agonizingly wide off target.

19' The South Africans apply pressure. Ogenyi Onazi commits a foul but luckily escapes the referee's card

18' William Troost-Ekong guides the ball out of touch. The Eagles concede a throw in afterwards.The South African apply pressure but the ball is cleared

13' Oghenekaro Etebo claims a South African defender handled the ball but he earns only a corner.

11' Super Sports midfielder Dean Furman concedes a corner. Kelechi Iheanacho's delivery of that corner was poor. The visitors, however, fail to get hold of possession. Wilfred Ndid's shot was wide in the end.

8' The Super Eagles are awarded a throw-in but the Bafana are in possession of the ball now. They lose the ball again though

6' Khune gathers the ball after a rather poor pass. The pressure is still on. Moses' cross is chased by Alex Iwobi but the South Africa defence clears

4' Two corners in succession for the Super Eagles, taken by Oghenekaro Etebo. The ball is out of danger now.
