The President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on
Monday observed that the current anti-corruption war has not “yielded much
success” because of too much sensationalism, tagging the current
anti-corruption was as five”minutes sensationalism”
The Senate President said the current government was making
effort in forcing back the menace.
He said, “I am convinced that why our fight against corruption has not yielded much success is that we have favoured punishment over deterrence.Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
”We must review our approaches by building our institutions to make it difficult for people to carry out corrupt practices.
“It is my view that the key area of prevention, we must work on, is to make it difficult for stolen money to find a home.
“We must fight corruption with sincerity, and not fight symptoms… unlike the five-minute sensationalism we have now. It must not be based on individuals but on institutions.
“Let us fight corruption with sincerity. If we fight corruption in a corrupt way, we will not make any headway.”

You must give some undeserved credits to the looting political class in Nigeria, they loot then defines how looters should be handled.Nigerians ain't seen nothing yet, when the looting class bled the country to death then your faiths would be determined.Make Una siddon dey look while suffering and smiling
ReplyDeleteThe punishment is to serve as a deterrence, to make looting hard in Nigeria is not possible . We are Nigerians, we know another way to loot, but punishment, embrasement are the things which Nigerian's don't like.

ReplyDeleteSaraki speaks the truth , they talk abt how people still billions of naira and dollars after the persons are out of the post and office...how are they able to do that if the institutions on their own are not corrupt... Nnpc, CBN , ptf,Inec ,ncc, federal ministries are very corrupt.i don't think anyone is more corrupt than the institutions that gives room for corruption
ReplyDeleteWhat is institution and who is the institution? What is wrong with NNPC, CBN and other Government agencies? It is the people that made it what it is. The big issue is the elements in this institution. Look at the senate as an institution. The elements manning the senate today are largely men with questionable characters. Most have cases of corruption hanging on their neck and they go about parading themselves as honorable men when they are indeed dishonorable. Can we expect anything good from our institution when you have such people at the helms of affairs. You can have the best of fighter jets, trust me, if the pilots are no good, it will be of no use.
DeleteThe big problem in Nigeria are the elements manning our government institutions. There is no way Nigeria can institutionalize decency, excellence and integrity as long as those men are there.

ReplyDelete“Greatest Nigerian People! We must curse our oppressors three times daily.
“Curse them in the morning as you rise from bed or from under the bridge if you are homeless. Curse them under the scorching sun as you trek up and down on empty stomachs. Curse them before you go to bed at night.
“Curse them as you roll sleeplessly in bed. Curse them as you sweat profusely in bed when your fan is useless because they have stolen the money meant for electricity supply.
“Curse them as your vehicle crawls on bad roads where you spend hours instead of minutes because they stole all the money allocated to the repair of roads.
“Curse them as you wonder why you are still jobless despite graduating years ago.
“Let us introduce self-curse mechanism at swearing-in ceremonies. We must suspend swearing by simply holding the Bible or the Qur’an. It has no effect on them. They are hardened thieves and die hard kleptomaniacs.
“Let an appointee hold the Qur’an or Bible or anything he believes in and curse himself saying, for example, ‘I, Lagbaja the son of akasegbe, if I betray the people’s trust, if I steal in this position, if I abuse my office or if I am unfair to others on ground of religion or ethnicity, let me be put to shame’.
“Let my children end up in the streets like the children of the poor. Let all the known and unknown diseases of this world afflict me and my children, like meningitis, ebola, lassa fever, cholera, etc. Let me sweat without reaping the fruit of my labour…In Allah’s Mighty Name I swear”
It also accused the national assembly of being the stumbling block in the fight against corruption.
“Knowing the slow nature of judicial cases in Nigeria and over-loaded with stolen money, the foot soldiers of corruption have calculated that corruption cases will continue to drag for the next eight years even if Buhari wins a second term. this is why they are feeling comfortable and laughing at the masses.
“Who will misbehave after this kind of swearing-in? Who is the son of a killer of elephants in the presence of a licensed killer of men?” the group asked.
“Politicians will become sober. In fact many of them will retire and only the serious ones will remain in the political arena.
“The vultures in the NASS will go back to their various private businesses, leaving the seats open for young, patriotic and visionary Nigerians..."
What a stupid antidote from a Senate President. Who makes up these institutions? People do and if an individual is a thief,no matter what tight-rope financial security you create around the institutions, a thief will still manoeuvre around it. People are thieves, not institutions. You, as the Senate President have corrupt cases around your neck, yet, you don't see it as honourable to step aside to clear your name, rather, you sit your ass there shamelessly because you know how weak the judicial institution is. You know the case can drag on to the end of your tenor. Nigerian politicians are shameless sorts.
