An agency of the Presidency, the President’s Schools Debate Nigeria, and Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, have honoured some brilliant secondary school pupils of the state.
They were honoured on Thursday for an outstanding performance in an international debate competition in Singapore.
The state contingent came tops of the National Junior Engineers Technologists and Scientists competition, and also came first in the National Examination Council Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.
According to the coordinator of PSDN, Dare Oritu, the performance of Ekiti debate team was the basis for nominating it to participate in the international debate championship in Singapore.
Speaking at the event, Fayose advised the Federal Government to recognise the contribution of teachers to national development and reward them accordingly.
He also gave monetary rewards to some pupils and their teachers who did the state proud in various competitions.
Master Tosin Adedipe from Shepherd International School, Ado-Ekiti, who emerged the nation’s best in the Young Scientist Competition held in Abuja, was given N2.5m. His school also got N1.5m, while his teacher got N500,000.
The governor also said the state government would build a block of classrooms in the school.
He promised that such rewards would henceforth be given to winners of academic laurels and their schools.
Fayose said, “We believe in human capital development. Whatever you have put into the development of other sectors, it is a waste of time without equally developing the education sector.
“As a state of the fountain of knowledge, education is our identity and we will continue to support teachers and pupils to ensure that we maintain this enviable position.’’

Fayose is the most Charismatic, focused governor who has achieved so much in spite of the difficult and hard economic climate this useless APC government and people have brought on Nigeria and Nigerians.
