Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has directed the State Civil Service to set written examination to evaluate the competence of all aspirants seeking appointments as Permanent Secretaries in various Ministries in the State.
Umahi issued the directive on Friday on the occasion of Ministerial Score-card/Appraisal Programme, organized by the State Government as part of activities marking the 2nd Year anniversary of his administration/and celebration of Democracy Day in the State.
The appraisal programme was designed to enable members of the State Executive Council especially the Commissioners to present achievements of their Ministries in the last 2years.
The State Chief Executive said that written examination would be set for those who want to be Permanent Secretaries, insisting that the best would be selected across the 13 local Government Areas of the State.
“this initiative would assist the Government to select best hands to drive its Developmental policies, there is no lobbying for it, it has to be the best person who has the vision of that Ministry,”he said.
“they would go through three different kinds of test, and they not to be be tested by one body, “he concluded.
Umahi said that each of the 13 local Government Areas in the State, would produce a Permanent Secretary to maintain equity in the appointment of Senior Civil Servants.
In her presentation, the State Commissioner for Water Resources Mrs Euphemia Nwali, assured the people of the State that the Ministry would by June 2017, commence the pumping of Water from the Oferekpe Water Scheme to the capital city Abakaliki.
On his part the Commissioner for Works/Transport Engr Fidelis Nweze, explained that construction work on the N2.4 billion Nkalagu-Umuhuali Ehamufu road project would be completed and inaugurated before the end of the year.
Other members of the Executive Council assured the people of the State of their commitment to make life more meaningful to the people of the State through their services.
The result of the evaluation appraisal revealed that the Office of the Secretary to State Government under Prof Benard Odoh, emerged the overall best while that of the State Head of Service emerged the runners-up.
It would be recalled that the present administration under Engr David Umahi had in 2016 relieved from office all serving Permanent Secretaries in the State.
