The Supreme Court, today, commenced hearing on the objection
filed by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ali Modu
Sheriff, against the appeal filed before the court by the Ahmed Makarfi’s
faction of the party.
Following the ruling of a Port Harcourt High Court, on
February 27 affirming Sheriff as the party’s National Chairman, the Makarfi’s
faction had on March 16 filed an appeal before the apex court contending the
ruling.
However, Sheriff, on March 21 filed an objection to the appeal,
praying the apex court to strike out Makarfi’s appeal.
The former Borno State Governor contended that the ousted
Caretaker Committee of the party lacks the legal standing to appeal against the
judgment of the Court of Appeal on behalf of the PDP.
