APC national convention to go ahead without Buhari

Governors of the All Progressives Congress governors and members of the party’s National Working Committee on Wednesday resolved to proceed with preparations for the party’s inaugural bi-annual national convention.

In furtherance of this objective, the two bodies resolved to send a delegation to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to present him with suggested dates for him to pick from.

This was part of decisions taken at the end of a monthly meeting held between the governors and the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led APC NWC.

They noted that they were preparing to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari for him to pick a convenient date for the convention but that was not possible before he left for his medical trip abroad.

Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, who addressed newsmen after the meeting said, “The issue of the National Convention was raised actually, as it was part of the decisions we took at the last meeting. Unfortunately like you realised, Mr. President is not here.

“But today, we all agreed that we have an acting President the same process should start again through the acting President.”

He further explained that the process which began with the President had to start all over with a team to be raised to meet with the acting President.

According to him, the President as leader of the party normally should attend but that in the present circumstances, the presence of the acting President will suffice.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in his welcome address said, “I want to say that I am so happy that we have met twice and we are seeing the effects, very positive, very salutary effect are beginning to manifest in the party.”

He noted that the positive impact of the APC administration was being felt across the country especially in APC controlled states.

Some of the governors who attended the meeting included: Godwin Obaseki(Edo), Solomon Lalong (Plateau), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa) , Mohammed Abubakar(Bauchi). Others include: Sani Bello (Niger), Aminu Bello Masari(Katsina), Sen. Atiku Bagudu and Abdulaziz Yari(Zamfara).

The Deputy governors of Kwara, Kogi, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Nasarawa and Imo represented their governors.
