Rivers State Government claims ownership of $43 million found in Ikoyi apartment

Rivers State Governor has given the Federal Government an ultimatum of 7 days to return the $43million dollars found in a luxury apartment in Ikoyi to the Rivers State Government, failure which the State Government will take legal measures to ensure that it gets back her stolen resources, declaring that the $43million dollars found in the luxury apartment in Ikoyi belongs to the Rivers State Government.

Governor Wike said that investigations by the Rivers State Government revealed that the money was proceed from the sale of gas turbines by the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. Addressing journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said:
The funds found at the Ikoyi apartment

"The money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

We want to confirm that the houses in Ikoyi also belong to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

"If you recollect in 2015, we said that gas turbines built by Former Governor Peter Odili were sold to Sahara Energy, business partners of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at $319million. "That money was used to sponsor the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 general elections.

From the date of sale of the gas turbines to May 29, 2015, the money depleted from $319million to $204,000 . What was stashed at the Ikoyi residence was part of that fund".

He said : "We have facts to prove that the said money belongs to the Rivers State Government. The Federal Government must return our money".

Governor Wike said all the stories being peddled about the money belonging to the National Intelligence Agency are false and mere face saving measures by the embattled APC Federal Government. He said: "As I speak to you, the Federal Government is so embarrassed that this has happened. All the stories that the money belongs to the NIA are fake".

Governor Wike challenged the Federal Government to set up a panel of Inquiry, which will sit publicly to investigate the money, if it doubted the claim of the Rivers State Government. He stated that the Rivers State Government needs the money to complete an array of projects, insisting that on no account would this criminal activity be swept under the carpet.

The governor said as long as the Federal Government continues to disturb the progress of Rivers State, so long will God throw the Federal Government into confusion.

"We are giving them seven days to return our money. Otherwise, we would take legal action to recover our money. $43million will help us complete several projects. We need that money for projects", he said.

  1. ...shocking! Let's see whether their fight against corruption will entail sacking and prosecuting Amaechi instead of shielding him like usual. This APC government is not just clueless but a disgrace and an embarrassment to Nigerians.

  2. Efcc have took that money matter to court already, and court has make a pronouncements that Efcc should publish the money in some dailies if anyone has owned that money should come out during next siting to bring his /her evidence to prove that, that money belongs to him or her. So just gather your evidence to prove the ownership of the money. Because federal government will not return the money to that building.

  3. In a democracy, there are processes. If you own the money, file for it with proof. No one has denied wike that opportunity.
Our leaders seem to enjoy gangstarism and media sensationalism. Why giving 24 hour ultimatum? Its ridiculous! He should just do the right thing. He is a lawyer, he should know better.
May God give us leaders that are role models.

  6. That money belongs to my father Though he is no more but I remember he appeared to me in a dream some days before the EFCC discovered the money. He told me that he kept the money in that location that I should go for it,he even gave me the keys to the lock and I will make sure I bring all the proofs to the court. Tell FG to return my money back to the building or else the spirit of my father will fight them.

  8. When some people said that Wike is becoming mad, I thought it was a lie. Now I am seeing it that there is a little madness in the man called Wike. Why must you always talk like a taut? Wike, you do not need to shout or make this kind of noise. Money was found somewhere by the EFCC through the whistle blowing policy initiated by the current administration. when this whistle blowing policy was initiated, you, Wike and your fellow mad colleague in Ekiti State and so many other politicians made mockery of it. Today it is yielding results. What will it take you all who criticized that policy to commend the federal government. An adage says, You do not eat rat meat, but you use your teeth to share it for children. i will advice you and your cohorts to just arrange all your evidence and wait for the day the EFCC will appear in court to pray for the final forfeiture of the funds to The Federal Government, and you you step in and make your case.I advice that you exhibit a little sense of maturity, just a little, and do not also make us believe that you do not belong to the learned profession.
