The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has accused the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose of plotting to set Nigeria ablaze.
MURIC made the allegation while reacting to the claim that Fayose sent some bulldozers to demolish some mosques in his state.
In a statement its Director, Ishaq Akintola, MURIC said the action of the governor showed that he was bent on removing all Islamic landmarks in the state.
Stressing that such action of the governor was capable of causing breach of peace, MURIC said, “For reasons best known to him, Fayose wants to set Nigeria on fire. He knows that his action is capable of causing breach of peace yet he appears determined to go ahead.
“This move is not only irrational but also highly provocative. Governor Fayose is deliberately provoking Muslims in Ekiti state and by inference, in Yorubaland and the country as a whole.
“Fayose has a phobia for Muslims and an allergy for seeing any Islamic monument in their neighbourhood. Fayose is determined to uproot every single Islamic landmark on Ekiti soil before his tenure expires in 2018.”
MURIC threatened violence if the governor were to go ahead with the demolition, saying, “nobody should blame Muslims for any breakdown of law and order if those mosques are demolished.
“We are bewildered that the chief security officer of a state can be hell-bent on stoking religious riot in a country heavily beleaguered with religious conflicts.
“Fayose’s belligerence and open display of hostility towards his Muslim citizens belies the perceived atmosphere of peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in south-western Nigeria.
“Many people, including foreigners in the country, are under the impression that religious intolerance exists only in the northern part of the country.
“Nay, the truth of the matter is that Muslims in the region have been patiently bearing a long-drawn repression and denial of their Allah-given fundamental human rights.
“The reality on ground is that while a handful of Christians may be amenable to the idea of religious tolerance, many others like Fayose have a phobia for Muslims and an allergy for seeing any Islamic monument in their neighbourhood.
“MURIC calls the attention of leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to Fayose’s aggression against Muslims. We appeal to Western diplomats in the country to spare a little time to study the religious landscape in Yorubaland,” Akintola said.
“We charge leaders of the national assembly, lawmakers from Ekiti state and all men of goodwill to make Fayose see reason. We invite notable traditional rulers in Yorubaland, particularly the much revered Ooni of Ife and the Alaafin of Oyo to intervene in the matter before it gets out of hand.
“Finally, we warn that the fragile peace and one-sided religious ‘tolerance’ being enjoyed in the south-west may come under severe threat if Fayose carries out his threat to destroy those mosques.”

Nobody should mind that useless, animalisticated unchained mad dog Fayose. He cannot do anything. He knows what is awaiting him after the expiration of his immunity.
ReplyDeleteHis phobia for Muslims is well known to CAN but they will be blind at it. Somebody like his friend FKK will not see anything wrong with his all christain cabinet but will write all-lengthy prose about minority southern Kaduna christains that always and still enjoy deputy governor's position, commissioners, SSAs etc.
It is evident that the so called religious tolerance in the South is just because the suppressed Muslims are not talking.
Look at a liberal state like Lagos, my people had started crying for christain governor before GOD brought Ambode as if the previous Muslim governors are biased towards the Muslims. These are governors banning hijab.
Anywhere christains has majority they always don't recognize the Muslim minority. Take Plateau state as example, it is operation all christain government despite the population of the Muslims. But in Kogi, Kwara, Kaduna even Niger where christains does not constitute reasonable percentage, they were always given deputy governors post.
During OBJ presidency, all his ministers and other top government appointees from these states are majorly christains except El Rufai.
It is only when you have christain president you will see vibrant CAN as if the word corruption is written in the Bible and so on.
Nigeria belongs to Nigerians and we must out-grow ethno-tribal-religious political bigotry/egocentricity in other to grow.
Hunger, poverty, diseases which are direct outcome of bad governance, leadership and unemployment are non respecta of tribe, religion, colour, region, race etc.
I'm a Christainfrom Kogi state. I know Ekiti because it is not far from Kogi state. On the issues raised by MURIC, I do not know the details why Fayose has decided to demolish Mosques. I'm just reading it for the first time. The questions that came to my mind are are the Mosques structures built in approved locations or not? Are they illegal structures or not? Has the government asked the owners of the mosques to get approval or not? Or even relocate and rebuilt the mosques in other locations or not? and what were the responses of the owners to such directives? Another question is has MURIC made enquiries to know the details? Whatever the situation is, MURIC should have taking to legal approach to resolve the issues. I know that there are people that are well educated as members of MURIC. They should be able to study the case and decide on how best to resolve it either using diplomacy to get a waiver from the government or take to legal approach. It is very wrong for them to threaten with violence. You talking about Fayose's cabinet etc and comparing it with Kogi, Kwara, Kaduna etc. Your comparison is wrong. Absolutely wrong. The population of Ekiti indegenes that are muslims can not be upto 2%, maximum. I mean if there are at all.It is rare to see an indigene of Ekiti state that is a muslim. But that should not mean that they should not be appointed into the cabinet, even if it is 1 person that is a muslim indigene and he or she is qualified to be given a political job. If there are, they should be given that recognition, and should not be discriminated against. They should be given positions in the government of the state. But Kogi, Kwara,Kaduna, Niger, Plateau is different. I'm from Kogi state. The braek down is this: Kogi east Christians 50% and Muslims 50%. Kogi Central Muslims 90% and Christians 10%. Kogi west (exluding Lokoja the state capital) Christians 99%.It is extremely rare to see an indigene that is a muslim from Kogi west. Lokoja which is the state capital is like 50% to 50%. You could see significant proportion of Christians that are indigenes of Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Kaduna states. But you could hardly see any Ekiti indegene that is a muslim, except people from other states that live in Ekiti. For instance you will see many Ebira people of Kogi central who reside in Ekiti and they are majorly muslims. These show that your narrative above is not correct
DeleteSilly comment. It doesn't matter what religion the leader practices as long as he/she leads well
DeleteThe unchained mad dog, really he running mad. If such things happen in the North this unchained mad dog and his co travelers like FFK will begin to shoutting and crying the PMB and northern agenda they want to finish with all Christians in the North. But today look at him with burned lip wanted to delete Islam in Ekiti state.
