Update: Senate suspends Ali Ndume for six months

The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Ali Ndume for six months.

Senator Ndume is being accused of  bringing Senator Dino Melaye, the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and the institution of the Senate to an unbearable disrepute.

The decision was taken by the Senate after considering the report of its Committee on Ethics and Privileges which was directed to investigate the matter.

In the report, the committee recommended that Senator Ndume be suspended for 181 sitting days, for bringing unfounded and unverified allegations against the Senate President and Senator Dino Melaye.

But Federal lawmakers appealed that Senator Ndume be suspended for six months instead.

  1. That's a good one. A house cannot divide against itself. Despite some of your unpopular policies which you makes to favour yourselves and your cronies,I love to see a formidable national assembly which the executive cannot manipulate and verse versa so as to have proper checks and balance in the governance. But remember that you need the executive arm in order to deliver the devi dents of democracy therefore let there be synergy between the three arms of govt.

  4. The Nigerian Senate is running an anti-people parliament. Ali Ndume only askes that an allegation be investigated. The Nigerian Senate is bringing ridicule to itself by being self-serving and anri-people. Ali Ndume does a lot for his constituency probably more than most of these childish legislators.

  5. He supposed to go to custom office and obtain a photo copy of the fake clearance documents, also he could have met the ABU registrar or the exam officer. To make sure he has an evidence at hand b/4 he present the allegations so that he will nail them well well. Mean while such is life

  7. No be this be the same senator wey they accuse say he get hand for BH sponsor? Good for him. Our senate is trying. I could remember when the executive wanted to increase the cost of data; when the executive wanted to ban social media; when the executive wanted to impose speed limiter etc. It was this 8th Assembly that saved Nigerians from this antidemocratic government, that is bent on inflicting untold and unprecedented hardship and suffering on the helpless masses. Senate keep it up, you guys are doing well

  8. I laugh when I read some comments because I ask myself, do we still have people who can simply ask questions as to what is going here in this country without we silencing them by ridiculing them, punishing them and otherwise. Is asking the senate to investigate an issue circulating the social media a crime? So if you suspend the senator for asking what is going to happen to the reporter?

    1. A Law maker cannot be suspended. They is a court judgement to that effect already in the case of Dino Melaye and House of Representative. The Judge ruled that since the law marker is a representative of is constituent, he cannot be suspended for even a day.

  9. That's the problem with them all; they can never stick to house rules. Always crossing the lines in government

  10. Let him go to rest for a while so that his BOKO HARAM Case file will be refreshed by saraki/Dino.
