Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari will host the Super Falcons after their historic feat winning the 2016 African Women’s Cup of Nations for a record eighth time.
A source close to the team said that the reigning African champions will depart Lagos on Sunday for Abuja where they will be welcomed by the President.
“They were hosted by Emzor this morning in Lagos and will be flying to Abuja where they will be hosted by the President,” the source said.
Buhari had earlier sent a congratulatory message to the Super Falcons on their glorious feat on Saturday in Cameroon.
President Buhari tweeted: “Very sweet and well-deserved victory for the Super Falcons, African champions for the 8th time. Congratulations to the Team, & to Nigeria.”
A solitary strike from Desire Oparanoize sealed Florence Omagbemi’s first AWCON title as coach. Omagbemi won three titles as a player.
