Marseille are ready to make John Obi Mikel their highest-paid player, in a bid to land the player from Chelsea next year.
Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has already revealed that his captain is in advanced negotiations with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Marseille has been bought over by former Los Angeles Dodgers owner, Frank McCourt and he has promised to invest heavily in the squad when the January transfer window opens.
It is understood that they tried to get Mikel Obi in the summer, but could not match his reported £3.4m-a-year salary at Stamford Bridge.
However, with the new owner, Marseille are ready to put forward an offer which they believe will lure the midfielder to France amid interest from China.
