Anichebe, who joined the Black Cats on a free transfer in the summer after he was released by West Bromwich Albion, has played a key role in the side picking their first two wins of the campaign.
The 28-year-old scored a brace in Sunderland’s 3-0 win against Hull City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday and has netted three times in his last two games for the club.
“Victor Anichebe has given Sunderland a focal point and going with two upfront has transformed the way they play,” Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail on Wednesday.
“So many struggling teams set up with a 4-5-1 and play negatively because they are scared to lose.
“Anichebe is an old fashioned battering ram of a forward. He is the kind of goalscorer that Swansea and Hull City, their rivals in the bottom three, are lacking.
“Jermain Defoe is going to score even more with Anichebe alongside him.”
David Moyes’ men who are second from bottom will hope to secure their third consecutive win when they face Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.
