Michael Essien has claimed that his country Ghana, is a better footballing side than their West African rivals, Nigeria.
The former Chelsea midfielder, who was speaking in an interview with BBC, said despite not winning the Africa Cup of Nations for over 30 years, they were superior to the Super Eagles.
Nigeria has missed the last two editions of the Nations Cup, after they won the 2013 edition in South Africa. The last time the Black Stars won it was 1963.
“I think I was not yet born the last time we won the Nations Cup, but still we are better than Nigeria as far as football is concerned,” Essien told the BBC.
Michael Essien also revealed his top five nominees for the 2016 African Footballer of the Year award.
The Panathanaikos man picked former teammate at Chelsea John Obi Mikel, Victor Wanyama of Kenya, Aubameyang of Gabon, Riyad Mahrez of Algeria and Andrew Ayew of Ghana.
