The police on Tuesday arraigned a 19-year-old man, Fatai Kosoko, at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing a N150.00 tin of milk from a physically-challenged girl, Saluma Abah.
Kosoko, of No. 8 Branco Street, Lagos Island, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and assault before Mrs. A. O. Soladoye.
Prosecuting Inspector Jimoh Joseph told the court that the defendant assaulted one Nura Muhammed, Abah’s brother, who helps in pushing the girl on a wheelchair.
Kosoko, the police prosecutor said, beat up Muhammed and tore his clothes.
Joseph said the incident took place on October 3 at about 2:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Bus Stop, Ikoyi, Lagos.
He said the tin of milk belonged to Abah.
“Somebody gave the crippled girl the milk as a gift and the defendant stole it from her. When the girl’s brother asked the defendant to return it to his sister, the defendant started a fight with him and tore his clothes.
“Policemen patrolling the area witnessed the incident and arrested the defendant,” Joseph said.
The offences, he added, were punishable under Sections 170 and 285 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
