NFF, HotSports unveil Oshoala as Face Of 2016 Women’s Federation Cup

Super Falcons and Arsenal Ladies striker, Asisat Oshoala, has been unveiled as the face of the 2016 Women Federation Cup.

The unveiling ceremony which was organised by HS Media Group, in conjunction with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was held on Tuesday inside Sports Bar, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos at a media parley.

Present at the event were Chairman/CEO, HS Media Group, Taye Ige, NFF 1st Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu and former Super Falcons keeper, Ann Chiejine.

In his speech, the Chairman/CEO, HS Media Group, Taye  Ige gave reasons Oshoala was picked as the face of this year's women's Federation Cup.

"Specifically, our gathering here today (Tuesday) concerns the women's game with a special focus on the Federation Cup for which the Nigerian international, Arsenal Ladies Football Club of England star and former two-time African Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala is being unveiled as the 'Face of 2016 Women Federation Cup'," Ige stated.

"Like its male counterpart, Nigeria's elite women football competition, the Women Federation Cup which is only second in prestige to the Nigerian Women Football League, has experienced a steady decline in all areas until recent efforts by the executive committee of the NFF.

"The competition which is a platform for celebration of female football and discovery of hitherto unknown players to feed our national teams has dwindled in perception and consequently failed to hold on to existing sponsorships or attract new ones.

"The result is that the competition has solely been financed by the NFF from its meagre resources."

Ige stated further:"Friends, the purpose of our gathering here today (Tuesday) is to acquaint you of a modest attempt by HotSports Nigeria Limited, to bring back the glory days of the Women Federation Cup.

"Our choice of Asisat Oshoala is hinged on our firm belief that, as the most outstanding female footballer in the Continent of Africa today, she represents a role model for millions of our young girls (and I dare say boys) aspring to make a name for themselves in football.

"This giant step will, no doubt, also open a floodgate of leveraging opportunities for stakeholders at various levels such that the tournament will become the brand and bride of choice for corporate bodies in the future."
