Tottenham Hotspur missed the chance to go top of the English Premier League table after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors headed into the game knowing that a win would see them overtake Manchester City at the top of the table but they failed to breach their opponents’ defence for the entire during of the game.
It was the hosts who however carved out the first real chance of the game in the fifth minute when Charlie Daniels’ shot hit the crossbar with Hugo Lloris well beaten.
Erik Lamela came close to opening scoring for Tottenham in the 17th minute but his well hit shot was prevented from going into net by the crossbar.
Mauricio Pocchettino’s men who beat the Cherries 5-1 in the same fixture last season grew more into the game with Artur Boruc keeping out Lamela’s deflected effort in the 28th minute.
Spurs continued their dominance after the break as Lamela’s stinging drive was repelled by Boruc.
Pocchettino introduced the duo of Vincent Janssen and Moussa Sissoko but the changes had no effect as the hosts held on to earn a share of the spoils.
