5 important takeaways from Aisha Buhari's interview that got people talking

Controversies have continued to trail the comments of the First Lady, Aisha Buhari in an interview with BBC Hausa where she said cabals had hijacked Buhari’s government.

However, below are five takeaways from the said interview that has left some people’s mouths wide open in astonishment.

1] “Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”

2] “The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.”

3] “You will know them [the people who hijacked Buhari’s government] if you watch television.”

4] “I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.”

On whether the president was in charge, she said:

5] “That is left for the people to decide.”

  2. Leadership anywhere in the world is not for the weak and faint-hearted. Aisha Buhari is right to speak her mind like any Nigerian in a democratic society. However, she must realise that her husband has a reason for many actions he is taking as the President.

Aisha does not know all that she need to know before speaking. APC is a political party and voted into power for presidency. President Buhari is the presidential candidate of APC and the position is not hereditary. Thank God that Aisha is not the President of Nigeria.

A true democracy means that leaders must not rely on their friends, relations and family in giving political appointment. That will be regarded as nepotism. Therefore, the President does not need to know his appointees and he must trust his leadership team for excellence. The president has the power to review his cabinet at any time and make replacement if necessary.

The words of Aisha cannot be used to make any assessment of Mr President or APC as a party.

    1. Mr. Anonymous: Your stand makes no sense at all. Nigeria is getting worse everyday and people are dying. Out of 148 of the present Buhari's appointee... 127 are muslims and they are all from the North! Tell me any reasonable President of Nigeria that have done that? Daura is appointing people that could give him kickback and our ceremonial President is travelling all over disgracing Nigeria abroad, yet you are taking of best known to him? You cannot know Buhari more than his wife. Truth is better anyway! May be your parents are one of the appointee that Aisha is referring to. Not necessarily important for you to comment please!

  3. Nigeria is not a one man property. So the president couldn't have known all his appointees before now. Even companies employ people base on qualifications and not relationship

  4. Parhaps Aisha wasted the country to be run as katsina emirate council. But this is the federal Republic of Nigeria
