Team Nigeria won their second medal on Friday at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games when Ronald Ezuruike won gold in the men’s powerlifting -54kg category.
Latifat Tijani had earlier in the day won a silver medal in women’s powerlifting, just falling short of gold.
Ezuruike was far ahead of the 10 other finalists, lifting 200kg to finish in first place.
His lift also shattered the previous Paralympic record of 185kg, making the Nigerian the new owner of the record.
China’s Jian Wang won silver with a lift of 170 kg, a whole 30kg behind the Nigerian gold medallist.
Greece’s Dimitros Bakochristos won bronze with 162kg.
