Enyimba’s dreams of retaining their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title are over, after they were defeated 3-2 by relegation-threatened Ikorodu United.
The champions went into Wednesday’s fixture at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, with the hopes of reviving their slim title hopes.
But Ikorodu United, who defeated Heartland and Kano Pillars in their last two NPFL fixtures, shocked the People’s Elephant in a five-goal thriller.
The win extends Ikorodu United’s unbeaten streak to five games.
Enyimba will be hoping to clinch one of the continental tickets up for grabs.
