The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has named the country's squad for the Africa Cup Sevens Tournament to be held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 23rd – 24th September, 2016.
This was revealed by the NRFF in a release on Tuesday.
The team features six changes from the side that participated in The Africa Cup 7s Olympic qualifiers in South Africa last year with the inclusion of three foreign-based players.
With captain Azeez Ladipo leading the team, ThankGod Okafor of Sharks Rugby Club, South Africa will be looking to make his first 7s tour debut whilst Temitope Okenla of Gravesend RFC, United kingdom, is returning to the team after missing out since 2013.
Speaking ahead of the Africa Cup Sevens Tournament in Nairobi, Technical Director of the NRFF, Olatunji Fasimoye expressed confidence that the calibre of players invited will not disappoint the country.
“We planned to bring in more foreign based players but we could not due to the harsh economy we are witnessing at the moment, Nevertheless, I think we have an extremely talented group of players with the mix of experience and youth. We are looking forward to seeing what the team can produce in Nairobi.
"As Camp opens by September 13th in Lagos, the boys will be expected to train very hard together for the task ahead. In order to enhance their performance, we have engaged Crossfit which is a renowned international strength and conditioning specialist outfit based in Zuric and Lagos to supervise their fitness during the camp before we depart for Nairobi on the 21st of September."
