I want to consolidate on Oshiomhole’s achievements – Obaseki

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, says he intends to be governor so that he can consolidate on what Governor Adams Oshiomhole has done in the state.

Obaseki, who was quoted in a statement to have said this on Sunday in Benin, said he had a 10-pronged manifesto targeted at consolidating Oshiomhole’s legacies.

Among others, he explained that his focus would be on youth empowerment, by, among others, providing them with funds to run medium and small scale enterprises and by also investing in sports, arts and craft.

He said with his 10-point programme, Edo State would have become the cynosure of all eyes by the time he was done.

Meanwhile the Obaseki campaign organisation has accused a group loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of planning to foment trouble.

According to Obaseki’s campaign organisation, one “Redemption Group” in conjunction with the Ize-Iyamu campaign group had planned to stage a protest in the state.

However, the Obaseki camp, in a statement, described the planned peaceful protest by the opposition party as an attempt to blackmail the Independent National Electoral Commission and intimate the voters.

The Obaseki’s camp noted that the APC candidate had last week made a peace call after he got winds of the plan by the opposition to allegedly taunt the police and other law enforcement agents and intimidate the Edo voters through the protest.

The statement read partly, “Cowards die many times before their death; the sponsored protest slated for Monday is an act of cowardice intended to blackmail the Independent National Electoral Commission, taunt the police and other law enforcement agents, and intimidate the Edo voters.

“We see the arranged protest by paid agents of the PDP and Iyamu as the last act by a wobbling candidate and his daivided party who stare imminent defeat clearly in the face.”

  1. Whenever the incumbent choses a candidate, this is what we normally hear, but the moment they win and got sworn in,the story will change, allegations will start. Take for example Willy Obiano and Peter Obi,both of Anambra state. Pls stop praising the incumbent simply because you want to get there. Put the situation straight as it is,if the incumbent wants to support you ,fine, but of course, he wouldn't want to support the opposit. So keep it there.
