I have been training hard all my life to play for Nigeria - Sophia

FC Eindhoven Women youngster Sophia Omidiji still fancies her chances of playing for Nigeria at the 2016 Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup.

The 19-year-old forward who is disenchanted following her exclusion from coach Peter Devdevbo’s 30-player provisional squad, says she will keep working hard to make the final cut.

“I was in tears not seeing my name in the provisional list and presently, that makes me feel sad,” Omidiji told journalists.

“All my life, I have been training hard to get the chance of representing my country of birth because that is my only dream.

“There is still time so I’ll continue working and training hard, hopefully, I will make the final list when it comes out.

“One thing is sure, I am destined to represent Nigeria at the 2016 Fifa Women’s World Cup and I am very positive that I’ll make it and everything will end up coming together.”

The Falconets must negotiate their way past Spain, Canada and Japan in Group B to reach the knockout phase and Omidiji feels the country can emerge as world champions.

“Definitely, it won’t be easy because other teams are also gunning for the trophy,” she continued.

“We have what it takes to emerge as champions, but we must find ourselves as a team. If that is done coupled with hard work, we will return home with the title.”

Nigeria face Japan in their first game on November 13, 2016 at the Bava Park, Port Moresby.
