Hunter arrested for shooting a ‘bush pig which later transformed into his friend’

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a 33-year-old hunter, Ganiyu Abdullaral, in prison custody for allegedly killing his friend who alleged changed into a pig.


The Magistrate, Modupe Afeniforo, directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal opinion. Afeniforo adjourned the case till Nov.11 for further mention.

Prosecutor Monica Ikebulo told the court that the accused shot at a bush pig which later transformed into his friend. Ikebulo said the accused committed the offence on Sept.9 at Iwaraji Camp via Efon Alaaye in Efon Alaaye -Ekiti.

She said that the accused on the said date with eight of his colleagues now at large went for group hunting and unlawfully shot his friend, Iginla Oluwashina, with his Dane gun. The prosecutor applied for an adjournment to enable her duplicate and send the office to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Ikebulo said the offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16,Laws of Ekiti State. 2012.

No plea was taken.

  1. But why prosecuting the hunter, why did his friend change to a pig at the first place, pls free the hunter no has no case to answer.

  3. This is not new. It has been happening in rural areas. They should transfer the case to Customary Court or let their Chiefs handle it. Hunters use to change to animals using magic power during hunting for several reasons. They are into mysterious practices. If you innocently shoot at such animals and their juju fail them, then you don buy market.

  4. Surprised that people are still reasoning like this in this era of internet and social media. It shows that many Yoruba's are educated illiterates.
    Anyway let them go to the court and plead magic as alibi. See people suggesting they take a serious criminal offence of murder to customers court or chief. NE should mind the kind of comments people leave here because some has the capacity to pollute people's knowledge. Su ogbo!
