Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri inspired his French club Jura Morez to their first league win of the season away to Hennebont.
Quadri, whose world table tennis ranking soared to 25 from 40 after his impressive performances at the just concluded Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, was the hero for his team churning in two wins against Liam and China’s Chen Chien An to help his team to a 3-1 overall win in Paris on Tuesday.
Hennebont, with England’s Pitchford Liam leading the way, defeated Quadri’s teammate China’s Zhen Wang 3-1.
But in the second game, the 26-year-old Nigerian ping ponger levelled scores for Jura Morez when he beat Chien An 3-1.
Andre Silva put Jura Morez 2-1 up defeating Robinot Quentin 3-2 before Quadri sealed the win with a 11-13, 11-9, 11-7, 13-15, 11-7) victory to end the game 3-2.
An elated Quadri said he was happy that they were able to claim the victory away as this would boost their confidence in the second league match at home against La Romagne.
"This is a sweet victory and we were determined to send a warning signal to all other teams that we are really going to be a title contender this season. It was not an easy match but I am happy and grateful to God that we won," he said.
