Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and members of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, have appealed to embattled factional National Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff to allow the party’s August 17 National Convention to hold.
The governors who met with the former Borno State governor at Gombe Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Friday, appealed to him to withdraw all his court cases against the party.
The governors who me with Sheriff include, Ekiti State Governors, Ayodele Fayose, Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe).
However, Sheriff gave the governors condition for which he will yield to their demand.
According to Sheriff, Wike must not head the party’s National Convention Planning Committee, the convention must be brought to Abuja and that he must be allowed to head the party that would conduct the convention, Punch reports.
The embattled factional Chairman also insisted that the Sen Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee be disbanded immediately and people be appointed into the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party.
Commenting on the meeting, the report quoted one of the governors as saying, “Sheriff is not ready for peace with the conditions he set. We may have to move on and leave him with his conditions because we have to continue with our preparations for the convention. We can’t be dragged out again.”
